Specialist Master Mechanic

Kokomo Private Island Fiji is seeking an experienced individual for the Specialist Master Mechanic position to be based in Kokomo Private Island Resort, in Kadavu.

 The successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, overhaul and reliability of all mechanical equipment and systems across Kokomo Private Island.  This position plays a critical role in preventive maintenance planning, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, mentoring team members and maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency and workmanship expected within a world-class luxury resort.

Key Responsibilities:

 Mechanical Maintenance & Operations:

• Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, repairs and overhauls on diesel engines, generators pumps, compressors and mechanical plant equipment.
• Maintain and repair resort vehicles. Buggies, utility equipment, construction machinery and mechanical infrastructure.
• Ensure all critical mechanical assets operate at maximum efficiency and reliability.

Preventive Maintenance:

• Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for all mechanical assets.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories and equipment performance reports.
•  Monitor equipment condition and recommend improvements, upgrades or replacement strategies.

 Troubleshooting & Emergency Response:

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency call outs.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Provide technical leadership during critical failures affecting resort operations.
• Support business continuity through rapid restoration of essential services.

Projects & Continuous Improvement:

• Participate in mechanical installations, commissioning, upgrades and resort development projects.
• Provide technical expertise during design reviews and project planning.
• Recommend energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical solutions.

Leadership & Team Development:

• Mentor and train mechanics, engineering assistants, apprentices and technical staff.
• Share technical knowledge and promote best maintenance practices throughout the Engineering team.
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism and continuous improvement.

 Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure all work complies with manufacturer recommendations, workplace health and safety requirements environmental regulations and company standards.
• Follow Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.
• Maintain workshops, plant rooms, storage areas, and workspaces in a clean and safe condition.
• Participate in emergency response procedures as required.

Qualifications:

• Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Mechanics, Marine Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 8-10 years if hands-on mechanical maintenance experience.
• Extensive experience with diesel engines, generators, pumps, compressors and heavy mechanical equipment.
• Strong fault- finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manufacturer manuals.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience in luxury resorts, island operations, mining, marine, power generation, utilities or remote locations.
• Supervisory or team leadership experience.
