Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

he University of Fiji is seeking a dedicated and technically skilled professional to join our institution as the Systems Administrator. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure to support the University’s operations. The Systems Administrator will report to the Director IT Services through the Manager IT Services. The successful candidate will be based at the Saweni Campus but may be required to work from other University Campuses and sites when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support the University’s key systems, including Payroll (Exolvo PayGlobal), Financial ERP (MS Dynamics NAV), Student Management System (EduPoint), e-Learning (Moodle), Library (Liberty), and Point of Sale systems;
  • Manage University databases (MS SQL Server 2008/2012/2014) including administration, maintenance, and backups;
  • Oversee Windows Server Administration (2008/2012/2022) including Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, and IIS;
  • Administer VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments;
  • Support and maintain IT infrastructure security including Fortigate Firewall, Fortimail and Google Workspace;
  • Provide second-level support for end-users on hardware, software, network, and internet issues;
  • Research and develop innovative IT solutions and test emerging technologies for University needs;
  • Manage the University website (WordPress CMS) and develop in-house applications (ASP.NET, SQL);
  • Implement and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity solutions;
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and user training manuals; deliver user training sessions;
  • Assist in IT procurement, budgeting, and cost optimization initiatives; and
  • Perform other IT-related tasks as directed by the Director ITS or the Manager ITS.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s qualification in Information Technology or related discipline;
  • At least three years’ proven experience in systems administration;
  • Strong technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server environments, VMware, and Hyper-V;
  • Experience with IT service management, troubleshooting, and end-user support;
  • Knowledge of enterprise systems such as ERP, payroll, and student management systems;
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines;
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct;
  • A valid driver’s license would be an added advantage; and
  • Must have proven skills and expertise with the tenacity, agility and courage to critically think, negotiate, consult and influence. The successful candidate must have a proven high record of performance and integrity.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency in Windows Server Administration (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, IIS);
  • Strong knowledge of VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization environments;
  • Database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server (backup, recovery, tuning, reporting);
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise systems such as ERP, payroll, student management, and e-learning systems (e.g., Moodle);
  • Familiarity with networking protocols and firewalls (e.g., Fortigate) and email systems (e.g., Google Workspace);
  • Skills in web administration (WordPress CMS) and application development (ASP.NET, SQL);
  • Experience with disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and backup solutions (e.g., Veeam); and
  • Ability to procure, install, and configure IT hardware and software.

Salary Band: $40,836.70 – $54,456.90

The University offers a three-year full-time contract with renewals subject to performance reviews.
