IT User Assistant

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The University of Fiji seeks a creative and dynamic individual to join our institution as the IT User Assistant. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient functioning of the Saweni Campus Network, Staff Computers, IT Labs, Security Cameras, and other ICT Resources on Campus. The IT User Assistant will report to the Director IT Services through the Manager IT Services. The successful candidate will be based at the Saweni Campus but may be required to work from other University Campuses and sites when required.

Responsibilities:

  • Administering Windows Desktop operating systems and support for Microsoft Packages;
  • Setting up email client software and supporting email users;
  • Firewall administration, client server networking and enforcing secure Networking practices;
  • PC and Printer maintenance;
  • Engaging in team work and promoting a positive working environment;
  • Network troubleshooting;
  • Assist Course Facilitators in IT User support;
  • IT Administration for students and staff;
  • Demonstrate professional/ethical qualities and have the ability to handle complex matters and responsibilities with a high level of integrity and professionalism; and
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director ITS or the Manager ITS.

Requirements: 

  • A Bachelors qualification in Information Technology/Information Systems;
  • Minimum of three years in a similar role;
  • A driver's license will not be required, but it will be advantageous;
  • Must be very adept and have the ability to work under minimum or no supervision;
  • Flexible in working overtime and weekends as and when required;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; and
  • Application must be complimented by details of proven skills and expertise with the tenacity, agility and courage to critically think, negotiate, consult and influence. The successful candidate must have a proven high record of performance and integrity.

Skills & Experience:

  • PC repair and maintenance;
  • Excellent knowledge of network devices and peripherals;
  • Ability to pick up skills on the Job; and
  • Ability to manage and prioritize IT projects effectively to meet office and section deadlines.

The University requires all staff to proactively undertake community, environment and social responsibilities as well as participate in University Committees in accordance with the themes established by the Strategic Plan 2022-2026.

Salary Band: $24,476.95 – $29,331.10

The University offers a three-year full-time contract with renewals subject to performance reviews.
