Software Engineer Based in Suva

Salary Range: $60K – $90K FJD (Total Package — based on experience)

Position Overview

In this full-time position, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementing programming solutions based on stakeholder requirements.

You will work closely with our Software Products Manager and other programmers to productise solutions as appropriate, including creating user manuals, API documents and contributing to marketing materials.

You will need experience in developing software using PHP and JavaScript, implementing web-based user interfaces with HTML and CSS, working with SQL DQL, DML, and DDL, implementing software solutions on Linux, and using standard Linux command line utilities (e.g. ssh, vim, rsync).

A Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or equivalent and a minimum of two years of related experience is essential.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications and skills.

Required Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science or equivalent from three-year university; and a minimum of two years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Knowledge/Skills

• PHP and JavaScript software development
• Implementing web-based user interfaces with HTML and CSS
• SQL DQL, DML, and DDL
• Implementing software solutions on Linux
• Comfortable with standard Linux command line utilities (e.g. ssh, vim, rsync)

Highly Desirable Knowledge/Skills

• In-depth knowledge of Internet protocols (e.g. IP, DHCP, DNS, TCP, HTTP, HTTPS)
• Experience with Internet Service Provider networking
• Perl software development
• Client/server network application development
• Database schema design
• Experience with PostgreSQL

Desirable Knowledge/Skills

• Security considerations involved in system administration and software development
• Installation and configuration of Red Hat, CentOS and/or AlmaLinux
• Revision control with Git
• Linux system administration, diagnostics and troubleshooting
• Database administration
