CARE International is a worldwide humanitarian and development organisation fighting global poverty, with a special focus on working with women and girls to bring lasting change to their communities. We strive for a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security. We know that supporting women and girls is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable outcomes in poor communities. We depend on support from the public to carry out our work.
CARE International has been working in the Pacific region since 1989, in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Samoa and Timor-Leste. Our programs in the Pacific focus on gender equality, including women’s leadership, economic empowerment and prevention of violence, and resilience and reducing the risk posed by disasters and climate change.
CARE’s programming in the Pacific has evolved from significant direct implementation in PNG and Vanuatu to include expanded engagement in support of partner-led programming across Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Samoa. This approach is underpinned by a strong commitment to localisation in humanitarian response and a commitment to supporting the aspirations and efforts of our Pacific partners. CARE is currently jointly implementing programs with over a dozen local NGOs in Fiji, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tonga, in addition to the large programs and many diverse partnerships in Vanuatu and PNG.
