Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

CORPORATE INFORMATION:
1. Position Level: Band E
2. Salary Range: $19,041.75 - $24,412.50
3. Duty Station: HQ, Ratu Sukuna House, Suva.

4. Reporting Responsibilities:
a. Reports to: Statistician, National Accounts Unit, Economic Statistics Division, Fiji Bureau of Statistics.
b. Liaises with: Economics Statistics Division and other divisional staff, Government Ministries & Departments and Stakeholders.
c. Subordinates: Nil.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to compile national accounts statistical report and releases to support economic policy decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and dispatch annual survey questionnaires. 
  • Plan and conduct survey field work to achieve maximum response and quality of statistical information.
  • Complete survey data processing, analysis, and produce statistical report and releases with adherence to
    legislated frameworks.
  • Represent the department in external and internal meetings including participation at the Macro Technical
    Committee as and when required. 
  • Respond to internal and external requests for statistical information.
  • Work as an effective member of the National Accounts team.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Annual survey questionnaires are completed on time to required standard.
  • Survey field work completed to achieve expected response rate to meet analytical standard.
  • Accurate and timely submission of annual report and releases.
  • Provided quality representation and number of meetings attended.
  • Number of timely responses to request for statistical information.
  • Contribute effectively as part of the National Account team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Diploma in Business/ Accounting/ Economics/ Official Statistics from a recognised institution or relevant experience.

Knowledge and Experience

 Experience designing surveys, collecting and analysing data for specific purposes.
 Knowledge of information gathering techniques and tools.

Skills and Abilities
 Ability to collect, interpret financial statements to verify information.
 Demonstrated ability to make analytical presentations.
 Demonstrated ability to work and liaise with people from diverse cultures.
 Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office or similar software for data analysis.
 Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.

Personal Character and Eligibility
Applicants for employment in the Fiji Bureau of Statistics must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 55, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment.
